1985 Camaro Iroc- Z Live Aid / Drive Aid Signature Car

Guess who's back, back again, tell a friend...

Attention Collectors, Investors and Classic Car Enthusiasts!!!

This vehicle has been consigned to the 2010 Barrett Jackson auto auction September 23-25 being held in Las Vegas, NV. It's scheduled to cross the auction block Friday September 24th Lot# 348

I've been collecting classic cars for many years and this is BY FAR the most rare and collectable piece I've ever owned. This automobile doesn't just represent AMERICAN history but WORLDWIDE history. This classic car that you will learn about could never be duplicated or restored.

This is one of two 1985 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc Z's that were brought to Live Aid in 1985. My car is the more desirable of the two becuase it was the car pictured in ALL the documentation listed below. It was also the car that went on the show tour schedule and the car that was won at the Drive Aid concert held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The other car was kept by General Motors for there collection and was eventually sold at an auction in 2004.

The short story is this: In 1985 music legends Bill Graham, Bob Geldof, Larry Magid and Allen Spivak produced one of the biggest concerts ever named "Live Aid". The mission of "Live Aid" was to get the world to come together and make as many people aware of world hunger as possible. The concerts were held in the USA at the JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, PA and in the U.K. at the Wembley Stadium in London, England. World famous musicians and actors would participate to put on a spectacular concert. For one day - July 13th - an estimated 1.4 BILLION of the planets five billion people stopped and watched this "global jukebox", and were treated to one of the biggest, most ambitious concerts ever staged! At one point, according to a stage announcement, 95 percent of the world's television sets were tuned in to "Live Aid"- an even more incredible statistic when you consider that it happened before the internet, cell phones, email and text messaging. Over 99,000 people attended "Live Aid" at the JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, PA! It was THE DAY MUSIC CHANGED THE WORLD. There were thousands of sponsors. General Motors Chevrolet division partnered with MTV Music Television and Radio City Music Hall to plan a special idea of their own that would help raise awareness. The idea was to bring a specially selected 1985 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc- Z to the "Live Aid" concert and have all of entertainers autograph the vehicle. The Camaro Iroc-Z would be named the Drive-Aid Signature Car. It was signed by over 100 nationally renowned entertainers. The vehicle went back to GM headquarters where it was clear coated to preserve these original, authentic signatures. It would then go on a tour schedule that would include some of the nation's largest international auto shows in major USA cities such as; Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York and Washington to name a few. Finally Chevrolet announced that they would raffle it at a "Live Aid Benefit Concert" held in New York's famous Radio City Music Hall called "Drive Aid", held on February 20th, 1986. There was a winner who took the vehicle home and preserved and stored it. It's been unused and untouched for over 25 years! It is 25 years and only has 784 miles!! This Iroc Z is probably the lowest miles "documented" Iroc Z in the world. Yes, possibly "the most sought after classic car" in the world!

This is a very unique classic car and is priced accordingly in the six-digit range. It's a car that belongs in a museum or private collection. I'm prepared to wait years until the right buyer comes along. Please enjoy the detailed description and multiple photos.

Keywords that describe this 1985 Camaro Iroc Z Live Aid / Drive Aid Signature Car:
1. The Chevrolet Camaro was introduced in 1967 and has become the most recognized muscle car of all time! The third generation Camaro was introduced in 1982. In 1985 Chevrolet introduced the Iroc Z package. This package really enhanced the vehicles characteristics. These Camaro Iroc Z's are becoming very difficult to find in original condition with low mileage.

2. This Iroc Z was never titled or registered until I acquired it in 2009. It only has 700 original miles!!!!! Yes, 700 miles!!!!! I've never seen an Iroc Z for sale with less than 1,900 miles.

3. This is the official 1985 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc Z chosen for the "Live Aid" concert. This car has been autographed by over 100 big time entertainers who performed at "Live Aid". "Live Aid" was broadcasted to over ONE BILLION PEOPLE!

4. This Iroc Z includes ALL the documentation from The GM Heritage Center regarding the "Live Aid" and "Drive Aid" articles from various newspapers, magazines and broadcast stations. Such newspapers and magazines include "The New York Intelligencer", "New York Post", "Newsday Inside New York", "Newsday Garden City", "The New York Daily News", "The Hollywood Reporter", "USA Today", "Variety", "The Washington Post", "Automotive News", "Advertising Age Thursday", etc. The build sheet is also included. All of this documentation is included in the purchase price.

5. Sponsored by General Motors Chevrolet, MTV Music Television and Radio City Music Hall (A Rockefeller Group Company).

6. This Iroc Z has also been named the official "Drive Aid" car that was awarded in a sweepstakes at the Drive Aid concert held at Radio City Music Hall.

7. A custom made show board and a limited edition print of "Live Aid" (which includes a picture of the car being signed) is included in the purchase price.

8. This Iroc Z was also on General Motors tour schedule for the biggest car shows on the East Coast in 1985 and presented in front of thousands of people.

9. Official memorabilia from "Live Aid" is included in the purchase price. Such items include a tee shirt, pin, program, ticket, calendar, magazines, newspapers, complete back stage passes, etc.

10. Beautiful color combination of white with gray interior. It's loaded with many of the most desirable options that were available in 1985.

Introduction: Hello, I’m Marc Schiliro from www.msclassiccars.com. I’m not a dealer but a hobbyist who has a passion for classic cars. I not only coordinate restorations but I redesign other people’s restorations with my own flavor. You might recognize my name from other magnificent classic cars I’ve listed for sale nationally. I’ve had featured classic cars at Barrett Jackson, Carlisle and Atlantic City auto auctions. My 1970 GTO shared the stage with the American Heroes 1969 Camaro that sold for $500,000 at the Barrett Jackson event held in Palm Beach, FL April 2009. My 1967 Camaro was in the top 30 highest sale priced vehicles at the most recent Barrett Jackson event held in Las Vegas, NV October 2009. I’ve also had many cars featured in magazines such as Mustangs and Fords, Mustang Enthusiast, Mustang Times, Smoke Signals and the DuPont Registry.

The Market: I’ve been collecting with classic cars for over ten years and have learned that the classic car market is a great place to invest your money. Like me, millions of people across the world are CAR CRAZY!!! There's a car club for every make and model. Hundreds of thousands of people attend car shows and these big auctions. People will always recognize a beautiful classic car and will pay accordingly. I’ve learned that the overall rarity and the condition of a car really makes a big difference in the value. Even if a particular model isn’t as in demand as it once was, if the condition is spectacular and it has that “POP” factor the value will remain strong. I’m constantly paying attention to what is hot and what is not. As an example, currently the pro touring muscle car market happens to be very strong. The factory original muscle cars were the big thing a few years back and the market got saturated so prices went down. However, the muscle cars that were very rare are still commanding top dollar. This Iroc Z that I’ve listed for sale is a perfect example of a very rare classic car that is going to command top dollar. Not only is this Camaro Iroc Z one of the lowest mileage cars in existence but it's for sure the most recognized Iroc Z's based on its "Live Aid" exposure. The fact that the GM Heritage Center has documented the history of the car adds the icing on the cake. The third generations Camaros are over 20+ years old and they’re becoming very tough to find in original excellent condition with low mileage. Purchasing one of these cars is like putting your money into a CD but the only difference is your rate of return will be much greater. An opportunity like this car only comes once in a lifetime so don't hesitate if your interested. Try to imagine what it would feel like owning a vehicle that helped change the world!!!!

"Live Aid": A look back at a concert that actually changed the world. Some of the performances may not have aged well, but the spirit of the event lives on.

Why was "Live Aid" held: Live Aid, like Band Aid before it, was held to raise money for victims of the famine in Ethiopia. Michael Buerk's BBC documentary in October 1984 brought home the true horror of the situation to people in the UK, and shortly thereafter Bob Geldof brought about the recording of the Band Aid single. Several other countries and organizations followed suit (the best-known being USA for Africa with "We Are The World"), until in early 1985 the idea of a concert to raise money for the cause was suggested. Eventually the concert mushroomed into sixteen hours of music from around the world, featuring many of the biggest stars of the time. At the last estimate, it had raised over $100 million.
Definition: "Live Aid" was a multi-venue rock music concert held on July 13, 1985 (1985-07-13). The event was organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia. Billed as the 'global jukebox', the event was held simultaneously in Wembley Stadium, London (attended by 82,000 people) and JFK Stadium, Philadelphia (attended by about 99,000 people). On the same day, concerts inspired by the initiative happened in other countries, such as Australia and Germany. It was one of the largest-scale satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time: an estimated 400 million viewers, across 60 countries, watched the live broadcast.

The Description: Wow, where do I begin? Let's rewind back to 1985 for a few minutes. With everything I've listed above you can only imagine how many sponsors wanted their name in the lime light. General Motors Chevrolet division, MTV music television and Radio City Music Hall partnered to campaign their brilliant idea. This idea would be to bring a 1985 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc Z to the Live Aid concert and have ALL the entertainers sign the car. Eventually the car would be entered into a sweepstakes held at Radio City Music Hall called "Drive Aid" and all the proceeds would benefit "Live Aid". Not only did the scheduled 50 entertainers sign the car but over another 50 entertainers who were present did. I've listed all of this information below. Prior to the car going to the concert many news broadcasters, newspapers and magazines promoted the idea.

Geldof Pledges Support for "Drive Aid"
Bob Geldof, chairman of the Live Aid Foundation and Band Aid, released the following statement ( Tuesday Dec 17th 10:30 AM ): "We are very pleased with the "Drive Aid" benefit concert plans being announced today by Chevrolet, Radio City Music Hall and MTV. The Live Aid Foundation, Band Aid and I support this effort to raise funds to fight world hunger."

After the car was signed Chevrolet brought the car back to be clear coated so the signatures could be preserved. Then Chevrolet had setup a "Drive-Aid Signature Car" tour schedule. The schedule was on display at the following auto shows:
1. January 2 - 5 Baltimore International Auto Show held at The Baltimore Convention Center

2. January 4 - 12 Delaware Valley's Philadelphia Auto Show held at The Philadelphia Civic Center

3. January 15 - 20 National Capitol Area International Auto Show held at The Washington Convention Center

4. January 25 / February 2 Greater New York International Auto Show held at The New York Coliseum

Then the sweepstakes were announced for "Drive Aid". The sweepstakes would run from January 6th-22nd in eight cities---Baltimore, Boston, Hartford/New Haven, New York, Philadelphia, Providence, Springfield MA, and Washington DC. Licensed drivers who were 18 years or older were eligible to participate in the sweepstakes. To enter, contestants can pick up an entry form at local Chevrolet dealerships or send a postcard with their name, address and phone number and driver's license number to WIYY-FM, the "Drive Aid" radio station in Baltimore. No purchase was necessary and only one entry per person was allowed. One first place finalist from each of the sweepstakes cities was selected on Monday January 27th. First place winners received an all expense paid trip to New York City. In addition they received free tickets to the "Drive Aid" rock concert, lunch at "The Hard Rock Cafe with MTV VJ's and an MTV jacket. The grand prize would be "The Drive Aid Signature Car" which was drawn during the February 20th "Drive Aid" concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York in 1986.

A-25-year old computer programmer from Connecticut won the sweepstakes drawing for signature car. He was among 5000 rock fans who turned out to hear Kool and the Gang, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and E street band member Nils Lofgren among others. Although the winner was extremely excited about winning this extremely rare and collectible piece of history, he didn't have the financial stability to afford the taxes on his winnings. He decided to sell the car shortly after to another gentleman in Connecticut where it sat under a car cover for 24 years! For a couple of years it was on display in a small museum. The car was occasionally started and driven but just to keep things moving.

Fast forward 24 years later... This car has never been offered for sale. I just happen to be in the right place at the right time. One day a friend of mine and I were talking and he mentioned that his best friend's mother knew somebody with a low mileage Iroc Z that had all these signatures on it and he might sell it. I said, "signatures"? What? How low is the mileage? I immediately got on the phone and set up an appointment to see the car. After seeing the car I contacted The GM Heritage Center to get as much information as possible. The rest was history...

The condition report: I had the car shipped enclosed from Connecticut to Rhode Island. When I received the car I decided to register the car so I could properly insure it, etc. I'm the first registered owner. I then took the car to be completely serviced and detailed. Other then the battery everything is 100% original. The car runs excellent and everything works. Although this Iroc Z only has 746 miles the exterior isn't perfect. Keep in mind it went to the dealership when it was new, then to the "Live Aid" concert, then back to General Motors, then on a major car show schedule, then to the "Drive Aid" concert, then to the winner, then to the new buyer, then to a small museum and then to me. Some of the minor imperfections are:
1. A couple of small scrapes on the corners of the front and rear bumpers.

2. A small ding on the driver's side rear quarter panel.

3. A small ding on the passenger side rear wheel well.

4. The trunk lock cylinder in the back behind the license plate has been tampered with and the key doesn't work. I was told someone attempted to break in to it at a car show but was unsuccessful. The inside remote trunk release works perfectly.

The Conclusion: Need I say more! Could you imagine if you had a 1969 Camaro ( which is only 14 years older then this Iroc Z ) and it had 746 original miles and was documented and signed by all the entertainers who performed at Woodstock! What would that car be worth? I would guess seven figures, wouldn't you? Woodstock was a big concert but Live Aid was a bigger. Woodstock wasn't worldwide and Live Aid was. Live Aid was also a charity event. I think this Iroc Z is EXTREMELY COLLECTIBLE and it surely can never be duplicated. I still can't believe I own it. As I mentioned earlier I'm prepared to wait years to find the right buyer. This is a once in a life time opportunity!!! Even if your not interested in purchasing it please pass along this website to share with your family and friends about an amazing piece of history.
